The springtime always reminds me of my childhood, when it was just getting warm enough to shed the heavy winter coat and trade it in for a light sweater, but there was still a frosty dew on the morning grass as I waited for my school bus on the corner of my family’s cul-de-sac. I remember the little beads of moisture that would make the tops of my shoes glisten in the sunshine and the softness of the newborn lambs at the petting farm that my primary school visited on a field trip every spring. Peanut butter sandwiches and brown paper lunch sacks always take me back to those moments. They were happy times.

I caught myself feeling a little blue earlier this week, counting more burdens than blessings. It’s my realist nature, really, to be aware of the heaviness around me. But I thought it was time for a little gratitude list to lift my spirits, and what better opportunity to do that than to jump in on Anne in Residence’s Currently theme? Here’s what’s been up lately.

Loving - springtime thunderstorms. In my humble opinion, there is nothing cozier than curling up under the covers and listening to the thunder outside.

Eating - all the soup. I am craving soup in all its forms, both homemade and from good ol’ Panera. (Insert: Adam Driver soup meme)

Working - on writing 15,000 words in the month of May.

Picturing - what life will look like in six months, a year, ten years. (I know… Slow down, Lecy.)

Collecting - books from local Indie bookstores. With dozens more shops on the list, I might need another bookshelf.

Wanting - until the chance to get some love time in with my two kitties, Moto and Kawi, this weekend.

Anticipating - an upcoming appointment with a new doctor. Hopefully, together, we can figure out a treatment path going forward.

Planning - a Mother’s Day lunch with the family. The weather should be decent, so I smell a cook-out coming.

Following - the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court leak and thinking about the SCOTUS leak in the book The Tenth Justice by Brad Meltzer.

Making - a reading list for an upcoming open course I am considering. It might just be me, but I love required reading for school.

Smelling - lots of peppermint essential oil. It’s very refreshing!

Getting - excited about top-down weather in the “car without a lid.”

Wearing - comfy clothes, all the time. My pandemic wear has become my new uniform.

Listening - to my man, Ludovico Einaudi, and The Recharge playlist.

Consuming - falafel in very high doses. Burger patties on King’s Hawaiian buns with sharp cheddar cheese are a staple at the moment.

Watching - two old television shows and a new one. Right now, it’s The OC and Lost and AppleTV’s See with Jason Momoa.

Wondering - if I’ll be able to see the Eta Aquarids meteor shower overnight.

Posting - my annual Star Wars character photo. May the 4th be with you!

Feeling - overwhelmed by social media. It might be time to unplug for an extended period of time…

Scheduling - another visit to the U.S. National Arboretum to see the gardens in bloom and check out the koi ponds.

Creating - a new editorial calendar for the summer. I have so many writing goals and am determined to see them through.

Reading - Between Two Kingdoms by Suleika Jaouad and Beautiful Country by Qian Julia Wang. These women are both talented writers.

Taking - the afternoon off to read and familiarize myself with a new style guide for my day job. And also take a nap.

Craving - a good snuggle sesh.

Appreciating - a skilled surgeon who removed all evidence of cancer from my father earlier this spring. Fingers crossed for clear tests later this month.

Enjoying - a night at the Kennedy Center. My love took me to see Mean Girls for the first time and it was wonderful. Can’t wait for the next show!

Going - outside and enjoying some fresh air before it gets too hot. We’ve seemed to jump straight from winter to summer in recent years.

Resolving - to change my Grammarly writing emoji from a sad or stern face to a happy one. The pout in the lower corner of my screen haunts me.

Playing - Mahjong match and getting the man addicted to it too.

Finding - a piece of chocolate that I’d hidden away in my nightstand drawer. Win!

Thinking - that I’ve missed doing this old-school style of blogging. Maybe I’ll have to do one of these a quarter?

Wishing - you a week. Whatever kind you need to have. <3
