If you and I had coffee…

I’d surprise you with an invite after over a year apart because I’ve missed you and our chats. We would meet up virtually because it’s the holiday season and neither of us has a lot of free time for a real date at the moment, plus, it seems like we’re doing everything virtually these days. I’d brew my tea and dial you on FaceTime and we’d both laugh with delight at the sight of a friend, at long last.

If you and I had coffee…

I’d ask about how you are doing with a new variant of the COVID virus flooding the news reports. I’d tell you that I’m a little anxious, even though I’m vaccinated. It seems like every part of our lives has been affected by this contagion for so long. I’m worried that we are caught in one of those spinning hamster wheels and cannot get off, constantly cycling through new variants and shutdowns and mask mandates. I am weary but hopeful that we are close to the end.

If you and I had coffee…

I’d tell you that my life was flipped on its head earlier this year when I reconnected with someone from my past. An old high school friend reached out to chat, totally out of the blue, and we hit it off so well. We immediately knew that this was a connection different than anything we’d experienced before and are making plans for the long term.

I’d tell you how funny life is sometimes. Just before he got in touch, I had resolved to the idea of being alone. I was enjoying time with myself and getting in a groove with life and work, and for the first time in my adult life, wasn’t thinking about a relationship. I was content with my family and friends and didn’t feel like I was missing out on anything until I met him. Now, he is my partner in life. I am sure of it, and I am so happy.

If you and I had coffee…

I’d ask if you plan to do any holiday baking and share that I’m going to be doing my usual roundup of cookies and candies. I always get a lot of requests and so the list grows longer every year, but I’m happy to put a smile on someone’s face when they get to taste their favorite confection. And who doesn’t love a little sweet treat during the holidays?

If you and I had coffee…

I’d ask if you’ve done any traveling since the pandemic started. I’d share that my partner and I are going to spend some time in the Pacific Northwest, which is a bucket list check for both of us. We’ve been planning for a few months and have lists of things to see, do, and taste. I’ve never been to that part of the country, but am looking forward to a new adventure, and might actually write a little something about it after we get home.

If you and I had coffee…

I’d ask you if we should make these coffee dates a regular thing again. Maybe not every month, but every quarter? I’ve so missed getting to connect and hear about what life has been like for you. It’s such a chaotic time and I feel like we all need a little something to bring a sense of joy and connection these days. So, what do you say? I’ve missed you!

If you and I had coffee…

We’d finish the last sips of our beverages and wish each other a happy holiday season. And maybe we’ll get to meet up again in a few months. Take care, friend. <3
