If you and I had coffee...

We'd meet at a local restaurant for lunch because we are both famished and needing some nourishment with our chat today. The host would guide us to the hidden courtyard where the outdoor tables were arranged, surrounded by trellis walls full of fragrant climbing roses. We'd settle into our seats and I'd order an iced tea as it's still much too hot and humid for coffee.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd ask if you enjoy taking advantage of local produce during the different seasons of the year. I'd tell you that, over the weekend, I had my first locally-grown peach of the summer and it was perfectly ripe and juicy. It makes me want to pick up a bushel of them and bake all the peach desserts I can think of. It also makes me really want to work on getting my herb and produce garden going next spring. I tried it a few years ago and didn't plan far enough ahead and didn't have enough space for everything that I wanted to grow, but it will definitely be a goal in the new year.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd share that I am so excited about my friend Mia's new venture - a Medium publication all about the body. I have grown to love Medium and all the writers over there and although I haven't published a lot there yet, it's a platform where I feel accepted and at home. I can't wait to see the stories shared on Body of Hope and maybe contribute some of my own over time, so I would definitely point you in that direction to read all the goodness that is to come.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd ask if you've watched Hamilton yet. I saw it the weekend it began streaming on Disney+, so I was super late to the game, but I love it. I've already seen it a few times and plan to watch it again soon. I think I've shared this with everyone I know, but Lin Manuel Miranda is a huge fan of The West Wing and the show inspired him to write Hamilton. He even dropped a few West Wing easter eggs into the lyrics, and the die-hard fans are having a lot of fun picking them out.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that there is a nest of baby birds in a planter right next to my front door and those two little nestlings have been a ray of sunshine to me each time I step outside and see their heads pop up, mouths wide open, waiting for a snack. Mama bird isn't too pleased to have humans peeking in at them, but I think she is learning that we mean them no harm and are just admiring the little lives she created. I'd ask if you have ever watched baby birds go from egg to fledglings who are eager to leave their nest, because it is a wondrous cycle.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd ask how your reading is going this season and if you've read any good books that you'd share with me. I am working on checking some books off of my master reading list and getting caught up on my publisher books, all while trying to fit in some of the new releases that have just come out. I'd smirk and tell you that I shamefully put myself on the waiting list for the new Twilight book, Midnight Sun, and was happy when I got the email from the library last week saying my copy was available. Don't judge. I'll report back when I finish it, but I'm hoping it will at least be entertaining.

If you and I had coffee...

I'd tell you that I am so ready for autumn. This summer has been so hot and humid, and because of the pandemic and all of the other craziness going on, I'm over it. I don't know what the world will look like in a few months, but I know I will be feeling more inspired when the weather is cooler, it's jeans and sweater weather, and the leaves are crunchy on the ground. I'd ask if you are also feeling the same restlessness and what has helped break it up for you because I am needing some ideas for how to get myself out of this funk.

If you and I had coffee...

We'd finish our meals and reluctantly stand to leave the cocoon of roses in which we'd grown comfortable. While walking out to the busy street parking lot, I'd thank you for coming to meet me once again and tell you how much I appreciate our monthly chats together. After a quick hug, I'd wave and wish you well until we see each other again next time.
