Coffee Date | Spring 2019
If you and I had coffee...
We'd meet at my place, brew our favorite beverages at the kitchen Keurig, and then take them and a plate of pastries outside to the table on the deck. After two weeks of rain, the skies have finally cleared and the temperature is rising to what we should be having in May, and although it's not quite warm enough to open the pool, the mountain is springing forth with the bright colors of the season and I am here for it all.
If you and I had coffee...
I'd ask you what has been saving your life right now and tell you that I am living for short walks outdoors when the rain has been letting up. My cat enjoys coming out on the deck and he begs me to open the door every single morning, so it's nice when it dries up and I can let him run free. Usually, he'd spend an hour basking in the sunshine and I can't blame him. I'm looking forward to getting that summer glow too.
If you and I had coffee...
I'd tell you that I have been inspired with a new idea for a novel, a retelling of a fairy tale of sorts. I've been so excited to start jotting down ideas for scenes, but also a bit hesitant because it would mean setting aside the other creative writing I had wanted to prioritize. I'd ask you, when it comes to creative projects, if you wait to complete what you have been working on before starting something new or if you let the waves of creativity carry you away to what's fresh.
If you and I had coffee...
I'd ask you if you ever fall down a YouTube rabbit hole and if so, what is it that you have enjoyed watching. I'd tell you that I recently stumbled on a series made by Epicurious called Price Points, where they bring an expert in to try to guess the difference between cheap and expensive food and beverage products. They've done everything from wine and cheese to pickles and condiments and I find them absolutely fascinating.
If you and I had coffee...
I'd share how excited I am about a show that will be coming to the Tastemade channel called Broken Bread with Roi Choi. I got to do a little freelance work for someone associated with this program and the episode my work was for, Transformation, is airing this week. This will air on the local PBS channels in Southern California, but it looks like you will be able to stream it if you are in other parts of the world. The show is about social activism from the tables of those who use food as their platform and it is so moving. You can check out the trailer here!
If you and I had coffee...
We'd linger over a second cup and maybe another bite, in no hurry to leave the canopy of green leaves that encompasses my backyard. When it was finally time to say goodbye, I'd pack up a few extra pastries for you to take home before giving you a hug and promising to see you again soon.
