#MeToo | A Memoir of Rape Culture
To the boy in junior high who made a game of snapping my bra to see if he could get it to unfasten...
To the guy in high school who touched me repeatedly because he thought it was funny to see how much he could make me blush...
To the drunk man who groped me on the subway...
To my old boss who threatened me because he could not fathom the idea that I was not interested in him...
To the guy I once dated who took liberties that did not belong to him because he thought it was my responsibility to "keep him happy"...
To the male patient who I was scheduling surgery for who told me I had "nice tits" when I didn't ask for his opinion...
To the guy at the dance club who thought it was ok to touch because I was "dressed provocatively" and was, therefore, "asking for it"...
To the man who did something that I am not yet comfortable talking about...
To all the catcallers on the street...
To all the flirts with their unwanted advances...
To all the men who thought it was their birthright...
And to the women who say "boys will be boys" or "men can't control their urges"...
This is my body, not yours. Please keep your hands and your opinions to yourself.
To the women who have had similar and more horrifying experiences, whether you share your story or not, my heart is with you.
