Dear Future Husband | A Marriage Letter

Dear Future Husband,

Lately, I've been thinking a lot about promises. Specifically, the broken kind.

Promises are easily made but not so easily kept and it's because of these broken promises that we both tug behind us bags filled with hurt and anger and distrust from our past. If you are reading this, it is because one day, I will stand with you before our family, friends, and God and make a promise of forever to you.

Before it's time to make that vow, however, I wanted to share with you some smaller, but no-less-important promises that I will uphold throughout our lives together.

The future is uncertain and I can't promise that our lives will be perfect. I can't promise you that we will never fight or that our relationship won't need patching up after weathering the storms we will surely face together. I can't even promise that this stubborn girl of yours won't hold her ground even when she knows she should stand down. That's what I can't promise you but here's what I can...

I PROMISE TO ALWAYS STAND BY YOUR SIDE

Through the ups and downs in life, you will always have a partner, a friend, and a confidante. I will choose you every day of my life. I will have your back and hold your hand in the good and bad. No matter what lies on the path ahead, I will be there next to you.

I PROMISE TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR HEART

Your heart is a precious thing and although it may have a tough exterior, what lies beneath is nothing short of beautiful. I will always speak and act as if I am carrying your heart with me. I will do my best to stitch up the wounds that linger from days gone by. I'll treat it with respect, kindness, and gentleness and I will always do my best to protect it.

I PROMISE TO LEARN YOUR LOVE LANGUAGE AND SPEAK IT

Actions speak louder than words and that's why I promise to learn your love language and how best to show you that you are loved. Whether it's your first cup of coffee in the morning or a hug after a long, tough day, I will do my best to be mindful of your needs and do things to show you that you are loved.

Who knows what our journey together will bring and what challenges we will find along the way, but whatever they might be, you won’t have to face them alone. I will always promise you these things, my love.

All my heart,

Your Future Wife
