Currently | Winter 2025

I’ve taken a very slow start to January and have thrown out most of my initial, rigid goals in favor of more rest, more books, and more, well … just being. We’ve had snow on the ground more days than not this month and I’ve kept cozy inside with the cats and often, a mug of soup. I love snow but it does pose some problems, mainly with transportation and the well-being of my feral cat community. Still, though, I do enjoy looking out the window to the white ground and naked trees. Before long, I’ll be complaining about how damn hot it is. Until then, here’s what I’ve been up to lately.

Loving - my slow mornings with tea, breakfast, my journals, and a book.

Eating - soup and Russell Stover Valentine’s Day truffle boxes.

Learning - more and more about my AuDHD brain and how to work with it rather than against it.

Working - on setting some rhythms in life.

Noticing - that the days are getting a bit longer.

Picturing - what the United States will look like four years from today … and the world, for that matter.

Collecting - stim tools because I focus better when my hands are busy - and I can’t be eating all the time!

Wanting - a film adaptation of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. I can’t stop thinking about that book.

Honoring - my body and resting more, much to the insistence of my partner and physician.

Anticipating - more snow in the forecast.

Planning - a work and creative calendar for February.

Following - ongoing news of the devastating wildfires in southern California. Heartbreaking.

Accepting - that I cannot do it all. This was a hard one.

Making - homemade cookies.

Smelling - not much with a stuffy nose. Is allergy season starting early this year?

Getting - bombarded with kitty snuggles at the moment. Love having them as officemates.

Identifying - where I can budget my time better.

Wearing - socks, because of the frigid temperatures, and I don’t like them a bit.

Listening - to more music and fewer podcasts, by choice, a little move toward quieting some of the external chatter.

Consuming - hot tea by the gallon these days.

Reconnecting - with paper: planning on it, writing on it, tracking on it.

Watching - The Big Bang Theory (still) and The Great Pottery Throw Down.

Wondering - who I’ll be at the end of the year.

Feeling - light and inspired.

Releasing - all the pressure I’ve put on myself in the past.

Scheduling - installation of a new garage door and painting our back deck, the last few big house projects.

Organizing - paperwork and balancing a checkbook.

Reading - a sapphic romance.

Taking - time away from my phone. Having a brick is good for getting work done.

Craving - cheese, says the woman who ate several pounds of it between Christmas and New Year’s Day. :)

Investing - time on my mental health.

Appreciating - help, when needed.

Sending - a little wish up into the clouds.

Enjoying - the many birds that visit my deck every morning.

Playing - Professor Layton and the Curious Village on Nintendo 3DS, one of my favorites.

Finding - friends on Bluesky because I’m thinking about deleting anything associated with Meta soon. If you’re there, let’s connect!

Wishing - a book I’ve had on hold at the library will be available soon.

Thinking - about tomorrow.
