Coffee Date | Spring 2024
If you and I had coffee…
We would meet once again for a video chat because that seems most convenient for both of us. I’d still be in my pajamas and sitting at my office desk, drinking English breakfast tea from the new mug Frank made for me. On it is an illustration of me (drinking a mug of tea) with my cats, Moto and Kawi, sitting beside me. It is the cutest thing and makes me excited to start my day.

I’d ask what you’re currently reading and if you’ve fallen in love with any books yet this year. I’d share that I’m reading through my master reading list and re-reading Anna Kendrick’s Scrappy Little Nobody and Jeff Goins’s The Art of Work, both providing some unexpected inspiration. I’d tell you that I’m also working on a project that involves writing book reviews. I started tracking the books I read on Goodreads years ago but only started reviewing every book in 2018. So, I’m going back and writing reviews for all the books prior, and it’s been a big undertaking. I started with a typed list of 13 pages and am down to one, and most of the books left, I want to read again before I can compile my thoughts. This has been an incredibly nerdy task but I’m happy to be close to the finish line.

I’d want to know if you have any vacation plans this year. We are nearing summertime here in the States and I tend to hunker down as my body doesn’t do well in the heat, but I would like to go to the beach at some point, even if it’s just a day trip. Also, Frank and I have a quick weekend excursion planned for later this spring where we are going to see the symphony orchestra play the music of Star Wars by John Williams. As a huge Star Wars fan, I am excited about the opportunity to see this show and explore a favorite city with my love.

I’d confess to you that every day, I am learning something new about my neurodivergence. Since my diagnosis a few months ago, I have done some research and connected with specialists and creators who are sharing a wealth of knowledge, and it’s made me look at how I’ve shown up in the world and how I move through each day. I’ve had to go to extremes to limit distractions because one unexpected text message or email notification can derail my thought process for whatever task I’m working on. As someone who used to take pride in my multi-tasking ability, I can no longer function juggling multiple plates. I am a one-thing-at-a-time kind of woman now.
If you and I had coffee…
We’d finish the last sips of our drinks and chat about our weekend plans before the gentle nudging of my cats for a mid-morning snack interrupted us. I would promise to get together with you again soon, maybe for a lunch date next time, and I’d wish you the best afternoon available to you. Take care, friend.
