Coffee Date | Fall 2016
If you and I had coffee...
We'd meet up at the little organic farm stand down a winding country road, far away from the city. The place always bustles with activity in the fall with people picking out pumpkins and chrysanthemums or grabbing freshly made jars of apple butter. We'd sit at a picnic table right outside the stand and sip hot apple cider from paper cups and marvel at the beautiful day.
If you and I had coffee...
I'd ask you if you had any fun projects you were working on and I'd tell you about the new style of journaling I have been trying out. It's sort of a mix between bullet and art journaling and it has been the perfect way for me to jot down my thoughts, sketch out ideas and keep track of things I want to remember without having to write them all out. I'd also add that it's been a great way for me to use up the stacks of Moleskine notebooks that I seem to be collecting lately.
If you and I had coffee...
We'd talk about the seasons of life and how, what they say about everyone going through seasons of growth and progress (like spring and summer) and seasons of plateau and dormancy (fall and winter), is so true. There is a natural cycle to everything, including the creative process and right now, I feel like I am deep in the chill of winter. I'd tell you that I've felt unsure, uninspired, and apathetic for a few months now. How nothing I've done has felt productive and I've been spinning wheels trying to come up with something to push forward and move into a new season.
If you and I had coffee...
I tell you how I've been trying to be intentional in choosing how I spend my time this season. I had been slacking a bit in my goals over the summer months and I've tried really hard to plan out attainable steps so I am better able to accomplish my goals, I'd ask you how you keep track of your goals and if you have a method of reminding yourself through the month. I'd ask you how you handled not meeting goals and if you were hard on yourself like I am.
If you and I had coffee...
We'd talk about our Thanksgiving plans and I'd share that for the first time in years, I was actually excited for the holiday and the company it would be bringing. I'd ask you if you were cooking and what your menu plans were. Then we'd talk about Christmas baking and I'd share the list of over a dozen kinds of cookies I plan on making. You'd laugh when I tell you that I'm a baking machine once the holidays hit and how nothing makes me happier than delivering a tray of freshly-baked treats to friends and neighbors and putting a smile on their faces.
If you and I had coffee...
We'd finish our cider and purchase a few things from the stand - me, a few of the big and brightly colored mums, and you, a couple jars of the butter, apple and pumpkin - your favorite. We'd take our purchases back to the parking lot and wave as we load up our cars, promising to see each other again soon.
